“Living with Joy: A Roadmap to the 10 Proven Paths to Happiness.”

Recently, I paid a visit to a Target store as I needed some household items. As I was browsing the product shelves to find what I was looking for, a little boy caught my attention as he walked by me. He was following behind his mother, grumbling and staring at the floor with an angry expression on his face. The corners of his eyes were filled with tears, and his mouth drooped as if he was carrying a heavy burden. It was clear that he was on the brink of tears. Soon enough, I could hear the boy’s voice beyond the shelf on the other side, shouting out in anger, “No, buy me what I want instead of this.” His voice was sharp and full of frustration. Meanwhile, his mother was also upset and tried to comfort him by saying, “John, it’s already sold out, let’s just buy another one.” I could hear the sound of the display stand being kicked, followed by the boy’s heartbreaking cries. I don’t know what he wanted so badly, but it was evident that he wanted it with all his heart.

This scene made me reflect on my own life. I wondered what I truly wanted in life and what I was living for. Our lives are like shadows, as they are born, they exist for a while, and then they disappear forever. The novel “Unbearable lightness of being” by Milan Kundera explores this concept through the experiences of the four main characters. The main character, Tomasi, laments that even the beauty and splendor of life are meaningless, while the female protagonist, Teresi, says she does not seek pleasure but happiness. The book highlights the acceptance of the lightness and heaviness of existence that life brings and how the characters find happiness in their lives. The contradiction between heavy and light is the most mysterious and subtle, and we live with it, but we must find the happiness that we need in the midst of the chaos of fate. Philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre once said, “Life is a choice between birth and death.” This means that life follows the path one chooses. Many people seek a happy life, and they will think about how to live it, using their own methods.
